Devil is working hard on securing end times

Devil is working hard on securing end times Pope Francis is not shy about preaching on how the battle between good and evil has already begun OSV Newsweekly

Devil is working hard on securing end times Pope Francis gives the homily during Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rome on Jan. 19. CNS photo To most of the world, Pope Francis is the pope of the poor, foe of unrestrained free-market capitalism, reformer engaged in shaking up the Roman Curia, ecclesiological innovator committed to consultation, collegiality and decentralization in the governance of the Church.
Francis is all that, but he’s also more — something his image as a social activist and agent of structural change might not lead you to expect.
In short, this pope is a believer in the end times who’s convinced they aren’t merely coming but are, in a sense, already being played out before our eyes. This, likewise, is someone who believes the devil is real and perceives a demonic hand at work in current events.
For example: The Vatican summary of his weekday homily Nov. 28 quotes him as saying: “The devil pushes us to be unfaithful to the Lord. Sometimes he pushes hard.”
Francis went on to add that this is more than just individual temptation. Scripture, he pointed out, “speaks to us about a universal temptation, about a universal trial, about the time when ... the whole of the Lord’s creation will be faced with this choice between God and evil, God and the prince of the world.”
That time, he made clear, is now.

Cautious, optimistic

That said, it’s important to realize nothing Pope Francis has said lends support to sweaty-palms predictions that the end of the world is imminent. On the contrary, much that the pope has said and done seems to reflect the assumption that Church and world will both be around for a long time.
He’s no fan either of so-called private revelations and speaks disparagingly of them in section 70 of his recent apostolic exhortation on evangelization, Evangelii Gaudium (“The Joy of the Gospel”), which may not bode well for Medjugorje, the place in Bosnia where apparitions of the Blessed Virgin supposedly began in 1981 and are said to continue.
A Vatican commission recently completed its study of the Medjugorje events and passed it on to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which will make a recommendation to the pope. Meanwhile, the congregation’s prefect, Cardinal Gerhard Müller, told U.S. bishops in November not to allow Church-sponsored events featuring the Medjugorje “seers.”
While no one can be sure what Pope Francis will do, he said Nov. 14 that Mary is “not a postmaster ... sending out messages every day.”

Devil at work

It’s a different story with the end times and the devil. The pope makes no bones about accepting the reality of both.
Regarding the end times — the era preceding the Second Coming of Christ, the last judgment and the end of the world — several themes stand out in his thinking. One is that this will be a time when the Church and Christians are persecuted.
In his Nov. 28 homily, he spoke of the present as a period of “general apostasy.” Mighty forces anxious to keep God from being worshipped seek to convince Christians to take a “reasonable and peaceful road” by obeying “worldly powers” bent on reducing religion to “a private matter,” he said.
Describing the ensuing persecution of the Church as “a calamity,” the pope said: “It will appear to be the triumph of the prince of this world, the defeat of God. It will seem as though he has taken over the world [and become] master of the world.” As for the persecuted Christians, he added, they are “a prophetic sign of what will happen to everyone.”
Lest there be any doubt, Pope Francis emphasizes that the persecution of religion he envisages will involve the shedding of blood. In his Nov. 18 homily, he cited the Old Testament Book of Maccabees, which tells of the martyrdom of faithful Jews and cautioned today’s believers against subscribing to an “adolescent progressivism” that encourages the abandonment of faith.
“Do you think there are no human sacrifices today?” he asked rhetorically. “There are many, many of them. And there are laws that protect them.”
This apparently means laws that protect the sacrifices, not those who are sacrificed. Legalized abortion comes to mind.

‘A prophecy’

It was in this context that Francis — in a reference that caught the attention of people who understood it — spoke of “Lord of the World,” calling it “almost ... a prophecy.”
Published a century ago, “Lord of the World” is a novel by Robert Hugh Benson, son of an archbishop of Canterbury who converted to Catholicism, became a priest and wrote works of fiction and popular devotion.
The novel is probably Benson’s best known book. It’s a futuristic end-times story depicting a radically secularized society whose authoritarian regime controls its mostly willing subjects by providing them with a feel-good environment where religion and traditional morality are systematically excluded.
The “Lord” of this world of the not-so-distant future is a mysterious figure who, as the story unfolds, grows more and more recognizable as the Antichrist whom the Bible foretells as precursor of the end times. The tale concludes on the plains outside Nazareth where the Antichrist and his followers are preparing to exterminate the last believers led by the last pope.

Beginning of the end?

Francis evidently thinks at least some end-times events are already taking place. But that’s not new. “With God’s coming into history,” he said, “we are already in the last times” — and could be for a long while to come.
However that may be, on May 4 he said Christianity is more persecuted today than at the start. “So many Christian communities are persecuted around the globe,” he said. “More so now than in the early times ... Why? Because the spirit of the world hates.”
This is to say that persecution is the work of the devil of whose existence he is no less certain. In an Oct. 15 homily he declared: “The demon is shrewd: He is never cast out forever, this will only happen on the last day.”
The pope then offered his analysis of “the devil’s strategy,” putting these words in the mouth of the devil himself: “You become a Christian, go forward in your faith, and I will leave you alone ... But then, once you have grown accustomed to it, are no longer watchful and feel secure, I will return.”
Pretty clearly, Francis thinks the devil is back today. Considering the state of the world — and also in some ways the state of the Church — many people would agree.

      The devil is "back" today? The devil has never been gone. Since Our Lady appeared at Fatima, we have been in the "last century" where the devil has been allowed to run riot! Abortion, especially, has had the effect of a blood sacrifice unleashing the power of demons to cause the further fall of civilization into the current miserable state of humankind. Lord Jesus, come quickly!

          "Our Lady" is a demonic spirit, an idol that is worshiped in the place of God. Mary is not a deity nor should ever be worshiped and revered as one.

              Forgive him, Lord , he does not understand what he is saying...You are correct in saying that Mary is not a diety, nor should she be worshiped as one. You are wrong when you say that she is an idol and that she is worshipped in the place of God. The definition of the the word revere is
              1. feel deep respect or admiration for (something).
              synonyms:respect, admire, honor, think highly of, esteem EXAMPLE:"she is revered as a national hero"
              So , yes, Mary SHOULD be revered. We honor, respect aand love her AS JESUS DID! I understand that YOU misunderstand and misinterpret what you see (from the outside looking in) when you see the great respect and honor that we give to Mother Mary, but that is no excuse for you to dishonor and be so disrespectful to Jesus' mother....unless of course you do not claim Him as your savior and have no love and respect for Him either.
              Your first statement is as close to blasphemous as you can get when talking about a creature, a human made n the image and likeness of God. I do not think that Jesus hears you description of His Mother with any joy or kindness. but instead He hears your words with great sorrow!. You should be ashamed of yourself!

                  "Our Lady" is how Catholics refer to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Catholics never have worshipped Mary and don't worship her today.....We Catholics "Honor" her as the Mother of Jesus . We have never been instructed from any teaching material approved by the Catholic Church that we are to "worship" Mary. We , however are instructed to honor her and respect her for the significant and powerful part she played in Salvation History of man.....She is considered a Saint and is worthy of powerfully interceding for us on earth....Jesus himself gave Mary, His mother to us from the Cross "John, Behold your Mother"....Therefore she is accessible to us as are the Saints who pray for us.

                      Joni, no where in scripture are believers instructed to " honor, respect, or, significant and powerful part she played in Salvation of man" for Mary. Lastly, ALL believers that are born again are saints. " Saint hood is not acquired by works or deeds according to the Holy Scriptures.

                      Have you called Mary blessed today? The Bible commands all Christians to call Mary blessed for ever and ever.

                          Our Lady, Mother Mary is not worshiped, She is venerated. What more would one want to carry our Lord Jesus in one's womb by the power of the Holy Spirit. No wonder she is called Blessed Mother Mary. A curse shall fall upon all those who curse our angelic Mother Mary.

                                Mark Mitchell, I was not aware that an UFO sighting could speak about sin, repentance, damned souls falling into Hell, prayers, rosary, etc... Possibly that UFO had the 1917's reigning Pope onboard and the Vatican's technology was more advanced than the NASA today, eh?

                                  Pope Francis is right on. The ambitions of the World Community and the war on God and His perfect Creation is the most important sign. Signs are genetic modified everything God has designed perfect but humans believe they can make better! Surveillance man wanting to see and track everything like God Can. Russell Shaw says that Pope Francis is no fan of private revelations. However, Pope Francis has shown great love for Marian shrines: He consecrated his pontificate to Our Lady of Fatima on May 13, 2013; He entrusted World Youth Day to Virgin Mary at the Aparecida shrine in July 2013; He consecrated the world to Mary on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima on Oct. 13, 2013; and he has a very special devotion to Our Lady Untier of Knots and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Shaw mentioned Medjugorje and refers us to No. 70 of Evangelii Gaudium by Pope Francis. All
                                          of the shrines mentioned above, including Medjugorje, emphasize the practice of approved popular piety, with a central focus on the Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist and Penance. They all help Catholics pass down their faith to the young and teach prayer and concern for those in need.
                                          Pope Francis also makes some other related comments in Evangelii Gaudium: “Journeying together to shrines and taking part in other manifestations of popular piety, also by taking one’s children or inviting others, is in itself an evangelizing gesture”. Let us not stifle or presume to control this missionary power! (124) To understand this reality we need to approach it with the gaze of the Good Shepherd, who seeks not to judge but to love. (125) Expressions of popular piety have much to teach us; for those who are capable of reading them, they are a locus theologicus which demands our attention, especially at a time when we are looking to the new evangelization. (126)
                                          Prior to the reports in June 1981 that six children in Communist Yugoslavia were receiving visions and messages from the Virgin Mary, the Catholic Church was facing major decreases in participation in Sunday Mass and practice of the Sacraments like receiving the Eucharist worthily and regular Confession, and decreases in vocations, decreases in adherence to Catholic teachings because of very weak RCIA and religious education at all levels, decreases in belief in miracles even the ones by Jesus when He walked the earth, decreases in the belief in Purgatory and in offering up our sacrifices, decreases in devotion to Eucharistic Adoration because of decreasing belief in the Real Presence of Jesus, decreases in reading the Bible by individuals and families, in honoring
                                          of the Virgin Mary, and in Catholic practices like the Rosary, fasting, and proper use of holy water and other sacramentals.
                                          Medjugorje and various approved apparitions have helped us to know that:
                                          -Spiritual practices are very important: Daily Prayer, especially daily Mass and Communion, the Rosary, weekly fasting, daily reading of the Bible (and rooting verses in our heart), and monthly Confession;
                                          -God really exists and the three Persons of the Blessed Trinity are to be adored, not ignoring any of them;
                                          -Prayer of the heart is important to help us have a personal relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
                                          -We should not be afraid to call God, our Father, because He is our loving Father who made us out of love;
                                          -Many people judge priests but we go to church to pray and worship God; we should not judge our priests;
                                          -Heaven, hell, and purgatory really exist; prayer is really needed today to save many people from hell;
                                          -The Mass is a powerful prayer, and every Mass benefits the souls in Purgatory;
                                          -Conversion is needed for everyone because every person must turn away from sin;
                                          -When you think of anyone or walk past them, ask God to bless them abundantly;
                                          -Jesus and Mary want us to help and care for those around us and persons in need;
                                          -Mary is our heavenly mother who loves us and will guide and protect us if we ask her;
                                          -The Rosary is a powerful prayer that Mary responds to and we should pray it daily;
                                          -Offering up our sacrifices and suffering is really beneficial for ourselves and others;
                                          -God has always sent prophets to speak to His people to call them to conversion;
                                          -God has always given mystics and mystical experiences to help repair the Church;
                                          -The world has progressed to a point where billions of people are affected on a worldwide scale by the negative impacts of the culture of death, the dictatorship of relativism, and errant Scriptural and moral theories;
                                          -The world would be far worse off without many mystical experiences and prophets God has sent to earth;
                                          -God is so merciful that He will take any loving action to save us from ourselves;
                                          -Love and prayer start in the family. Let us love and pray every day.

                                              Agreed. But troubling is the apparent unawareness of the requirement of Fatima to overcome the "errors of Russia".
                                              All the trends are pointing to WWIII. And then Putin pulls this stunt in the Ukraine (he is not a communist anymore but a Christian but has that old Tsarist Empire dream) and the Patriarch of Russia with his Synod just a few weeks ago solemnly proclaimed that there is no need for a Primate of the whole Church (i.e. pope) and has explicitly stated that he wanted good relations with the Catholic Church IN ORDER TO DEFEAT SECULARISM but DID NOT WANT REUNION WITH US -- most of the other Orthodox Churches do not agree! So now there is a wrench thrown into the Dialogue with the Orthodox. And at THIS LATE DATE, JUST 3 YEARS BEFORE THE CENTENARY OF FATIMA the errors of RUSSIA PERSIST. Can it be that is because this pope as the 7 before him have FAILED TO FOLLOW THE SIMPLE DIRECTIONS OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA?!, I.E. the Pope and the whole hierarchy with him SPECIFICALLY CONSECRATE RUSSIA TO HER IMMACULATE HEART. RUSSIA, not the world. Those three conditions if done (NOT two or one, but THREE) would have prevented WWII (which OBVIOUSLY having occurred meant was NOT done or we would have had the era of Peace 60yrs ago!). NOW WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF WWIII. WILL THE POPE AND BISHOPS EVER CONNECT THE DOTS IN TIME?. Are we AGAIN going to make the same mistake? From a practical point of view, WHY NOT JUST DO IT TO BE SAFE?! (O, but then the Russians won't like us and will be offended--note well, this is human respect trumping the desire of O.L. of Fatima as Prophetess pare excellence of Heavens Plan for an Era of Peace to be granted to the World. And the Lord Himself told Sr. Lucia that if they Shepherds do not heed OL of Fatima' desire, THEY MIGHT END UP JUST AS THE KINGS OF FRANCE, who ignored the Sacred Heart's desire to have the Consecration of France done by the nation's bishops to Himself FOR A HUNDRED YEARS, which resulted in the DESTRUCTION OF THE FRENCH MONARCHY!

                                                  I was just having this discussion with my sister last weekend,after reading,"Our Lady of Fatima" by William Thomas Walsh,published in 1954. One of the very last questions he asked Lucia, who was a nun by then, was did she think that the Pope and the Bishops would consecrate Russia only after the laity had done their duty,ie- rosaries,sacrifices and First Saturday Communions,etc. Lucia said the consecration had been done,BUT - not in the form indicated by Our Lady and Lucia did not know if Our Lady had accepted it. Lucia did write to Pope Pius XI and told him of Our Lady's desires and requests. My hope is that Pope Francis will do the consecration again and in the form that was requested by Our Lady.

                                                      We better write our bishops to lead the parishes in an unrelenting rosary campaign for the consecration to be done as requested, starting on April 1 with that 54 day miraculous rosary devotion. Lucia was later to say (after extreme pressure from a Cardinal interrogating her for 8 hrs.) that Our Lady did accept the 1984 Entrustment of the World, but that only gave a partial political reprieve with the fall of European communism; but since it was not done as requested the promised peace has not materialized.

If we keep 100 years from oct 1917 as the limit date like in the case of the Consecration of France's Kingdom, that means the Pope has to perform it before oct 2017.
                                                        In addition it is extremely odd to notice that our Lady required RUSSIA to be consecrated, not USSR. Of course USSR disappeared in 1987, that means the Consecration was truly intended for the times being

                                                      There's some great stuff in this article, but what incredible ignorance Mr. Shaw shows by saying that "Francis is no fan of so-called private revelation." Francis dedicated his papacy to Fatima. He consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart. He prays the entire Rosary every day. Look at him at Aparecida. All private revelation supports (the Holy Father included) are careful to warn against the dangers contained therein; that does not mean they are "not fans of private revelation."
                                                      Pope Francis loves private revelation, as all Catholics should.

Antichrist whose rise will be swift(like a leopard)and widely unexpected will become a "messiah" bringing peace and prosperity to the world but in reality will be a chastisement from God and the Christian martyrdoms of blood that will become fulfilled a purification of the Church. Sins will be wickedly numerous and offensive to God. The story of the Bible is one of salvation through Jesus Christ and the message is one of repentance or, if no repentance, face chastisement. Worse still: Repent individually or perish individually (in the darkness of eternal separation from God).

                                                                        He also mocks those of us who pray the rosary, and he gives protestantism more 'juice' by claiming that his flock prays by rote with empty words, which by all appearances includes the praying of the Divine Office. He has refused all the trappings and signs of the Papal office, preferring only being the 'bishop of Rome' - confusing many people as to where his religious 'preferences' actually lie. Like everyone else, I am just 'in waiting' to see where this goes.
                                                                          • Avatar
                                                                            Pope Francis as a bishop did not drive a car, but took the city bus. He takes a vow of poverty VERY seriously and he continues that vow in the Vatican. Our archbishop in Portland was so consumed with making connections to promote himself, that he was rarely home or concerned with the diocese (even though the seminary was teaching heresy, embracing homosexuality and some priests were teaching heresy -- universal salvation, Mother/Father God, Mary was not free from sin, etc... and our bishop's ambitious efforts paid off -- he was made Cardinal and landed in the Vatican as Benedict's #2 guy. Ugh. Pope Francis sees the power-hungry motives among the clergy and wants it stopped. I doubt Pope Francis intends to mock people who pray the rosary. Pope John Paul II told America's bishops on his first trip here that the church in America needs to be re-evangelized -- that authentic faith / relationship with God was widely lacking. John Paul would know authentic Christianity -- he came from persecuted Poland where Christians, if caught, were imprisoned or killed, and he attended an underground seminary -- so no one in Poland would just pretend to be Christian. I come from a Catholic family who "prayed by rote with empty words" -- They were viewed as pillars of the church, members of many committees, leaders of music ministry, but lacking real relationship with God. ... our family would fight all the way to church, then smile and be outwardly godly when we get there... We prayed rosary, attended weekly mass, holy days, stations of the cross... But did not LIVE the gospel or have our lives transformed by all the religious practices. The hypocrisy destroyed faith in my siblings... all seven have left the church and I was agnostic until I encountered Jesus while attending college and grew in the charismatic renewal. My mother rejected God as she was dying from cancer... He was supposed to be like "Santa Claus" and give them everything they wanted and when He didn't cooperate, they rejected Him. My father remarried a non-Christian. So you might want to reconsider your poor judgment of Pope Francis. And we all can redouble our efforts to draw near to God... to live for him, to love him with ALL our heart, mind, soul, strength...

                                                                              • Avatar

His mode of operation is to tempt the Children of God away from their relationship with God and therefore win over their souls. Lucifer, Satan, The Evil One is all that God isn't....dark, prideful , ugly, hateful and a liar and a murderer from the beginning....Satan has powers given to him God Himself...the powers given to all angels....Angels are pure spirits and have a high intelligence and Lucifer was the most intelligent of all the angels.....His beef with God was that he didn't want to serve human beings the way the angels do, so he rebelled and is now living out eternity in a all encompassing hate for God creation......There has been many signs that this is all true.....There have been many Saints that have encountered Satan and his minions on a regular basis. Padre Pio is one of them and has written about such encounters and attacks by satan. It's funny how people will believe in just about anything but what the Catholic Church has passed down since the birth, life, and death and resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ Himself.....There is a lot of literature in print so one could become learned in the subject before they enter a debate.
