Remember! We do NOT hear Pope Francis,.Firsthand-just saying ;)

We do NOT hear Pope Francis words,.Firsthand
We hear  them in a different language and culture...

I just want to remind myself . It does not mean that we cannot hear or know! But it DOES mean that we must remember  these filters as we listen and try to understand...

Comment on Understanding Pope Francis;
He does not speak our language , his message is being translated by someone else.
He is not from our culture, we are ...
These are both filters that can distort commuications and understanding.
But most of us assume that the words that we read are what he said as if they came out of his mouth and directly to our ears in English. We must realize the filters and differences are there and work on understanding accordingly
I cannot SIMPLYASSUME that what I read and understand is what Pope Francis  has actually said and meant....

my comment on an article about different reactions to  Pope Francis:
 it doesn't help that we have to use translations On numerous occasions, we find out later that there were errors in the translation that that have had to be corrected-even on the Vatican website, itself! Do they have a team to do the translations,? a few people? 1 person? and is there a proofread system in place. I have learned to give things a few days for any errors to be found by a few trusted people around the Catholic blogosphere BEFORE I assume that what I have read is ACTUALLY what Pope Francis has said. as it is with the Bible, some translations are better than others...For many,many words, each word can be translated a number of different ways OR,there is not really a word for word translation. There are a lot of choices for a translator to make as he translates the original manuscript into another language--,especially when that other language is English! When.translating from one language to another and one culture to another is very easy for bias and subtle deviations(unintentional or otherwise) from the original meaning to creep in....
